La importancia de la visita periódica al odontólogo - The importance of the periodic visit to the dentist

Noto en muchos casos que los pacientes visitan al odontólogo ante algún problema que pueden registrar: dolor, movimiento de dientes o implantes, entre otros. Sin embargo, hay afecciones que no se registran fácilmente por el paciente hasta no haber avanzado; es el caso de una simple caries, que con el pasar del tiempo podría aflojar las piezas dentarias o los implantes.

Con un estudio clínico y radiográfico de ser necesario, el odontólogo puede detectar estas infecciones a tiempo y sanarlas, evitando mayores consecuencias. Es decir que el cuidado preventivo de la salud bucal tendrá como consecuencia una mejor conservación de las piezas dentales o protésicas, evitando pérdidas y movimientos no deseados.

La periodicidad de las visitas dependerá de cada paciente. En la mayoría de los casos es anual, pero en otros pacientes puede ser cada seis meses o, inclusive, cada 4 ó 3, dependiendo de la gravedad del caso.



In many cases, I´ve noticed that patients usually visit the dentist when they have a specific problem that they are aware of: pain, movement of dental pieces or implants, among others. However, there are some diseases that cannot be easily registered by the patient until they have advanced; this is the case of a simple cavity, that could loose the dental pieces or implants as time goes by.

With a clinical and x-ray study if necessary, the dentist can detect this infections on time and heal them, avoiding further consequences. That is to say that the preventing care of the oral health will consequently lead to a better conservation of the dental or prosthetic pieces, avoiding losses or undesired motion.

The periodicity of the visits will depend on each patient. In most cases it is annual, although in other patients can be every six months, or even more, every four or three, depending on the severity of the case.
